WHO CAN COME? InsideOut is for junior and senior high youth groups and their youth pastors and chaperones. We recommend one adult (at least 21 yrs old) chaperone for every 6 youth.
WHAT YOU NEED TO PROVIDE: Transportation for the whole week. Sunday night meal. Friday lunch and dinner.
Transportation: Say a little prayer over the church van, bus or wagon and head on down to Central Florida. When you arrive we will have detailed maps and directions to program venues, your job site, dinner destinations, local Hospital and walk-in clinic in your orientation packet. On Monday morning we will have a staff member lead the way out to the job site so everyone can get acclimated to your group’s jobsite destination. Don’t forget to let us know if your group is bringing one of those giant charter or school buses (We may need to make some prior arrangements).
HOUSING: you will be staying at a local private school. Sleeping areas will be designated by gender and yes you will be sleeping on the floor so don’t forget your sleeping bag. You are also allowed to bring a single or twin air mattress, pillow and teddy bear for added comfort. ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE: We request all groups arrive at the camp between 5:00 and 7:00 PM on the opening day. No meals are served on Sunday and all of the time before 5:00 PM is needed for cleaning and program preparation. Please try not to arrive before 5:00 PM, and try to arrive before 8:00 PM as the opening program is scheduled for 8:05 PM. please remember that no meals are served on Sunday. InsideOut closes after breakfast on Friday. All groups should leave for their Florida fun Friday day by 10:00 AM.
SAFETY & HEALTH: Everything possible is done to make the camp a safe place for your group. Our staff surveys the job site before and during your work days to insure maximum safety precautions are being made. I know I’m stating the obvious but it gets pretty hot here in Florida, so our big thing is hydration, the students are asked to pair up to stay accountable to each other to stay hydrated. Our staff will have plenty of full water coolers and encourage students to take frequent water breaks. In case of an emergency we will have an emergency phone available and a modern hospital is only a few minutes drive. Along with release form, each participant photocopies their insurance card and a parent’s or guardian’s license onto the back of the release form. This way, important information is readily available for you. We can’t forget prayer, I know God is one of the biggest reasons we have not had a major injury here at InsideOut.
EMERGENCY NUMBER: In case of emergency, the (863) 683-3701 voicemail will be checked several times a day. Upon arrival, we will hand out a cell phone number that is manned (or womanned) 24 hours. We strongly recommend that each youth group have a cell phone with them at all times so that your parents and church can get in touch with you during your free time or Thursday outreach mission.
EXTRA STUFF: our little InsideOut store will have water bottles, gloves, soda, cookies, candy, or other junk food.
A camp DVD will be provided for all groups. Video footage will be taken during your youth group’s week and put together for a video memory of your summer mission experience. The video will be a great way for your church to experience the mission week with you.
JOURNALING THE WEEK: Each participant will be given a journal to use during the week. It will include a devotional for each morning and evening and of course, space to write your observations, impressions and thoughts. This journal is by no means mandatory, but it may serve your group as a way to help recognize the Lord’s working through your week.
CORRESPONDENCE: Our experience has proven that is generally not fruitful for parents to send letters during the mission week because there would not be enough time to receive the letter through the Postal Service. However, sending letters with the youth director to be handed out during the week provides a wonderful source of encouragement.
LAUNDRY FACILITIES: There are no coin washers and dryers available, but there are some facilities nearby.
